A little bit of snow
I am loving driving my daughter to dance. It gives me 2 hours completely alone to play with my camera.
Today I drove west until I found some inspiration. I cannot help but snap shots of the mountains!
We finally got a little snow and they are just so pretty.

500 mm
On sunday my husband and I pulled out the 500mm lens and the tripod and tried things out. I kid you not, the first 10 pictures looked like this..... If you can't see anything it's because they were completely white. Way overexposed. The 500 is a lot different than the other lenses and there is still a lot to figure out.
After finally getting a picture to show up it was cool to see how far the zoom worked. You can see the frozen trees on the very top of the mountain!

How little I know
I have been trying really hard the last few weeks to learn anything I can about good photography. Now that I have a new camera in my hands, I dont know anything! Today I just played. I just wanted to see what kind of images I could get (everything pretty much on auto) Hey, I did figure out how to turn the camera on- so yay.
My daughter seems to think my old camera is now hers and she went out with me to snap some shots. It will be fun if she loves it as much as I do.
I wanted to try out our 55-300mm lens. It has quite the zoom.... I can only imagine what the 500 can do. My hometown has mountains in every direction, so what better way to try out the zoom that on the beautiful mountains!
I never really understood why a wide angle lens would be so good to have until I took my first shot with the 300 lens. All the way zoomed in with the mountains close by definately cuts out a lot of surrounding landscape. Wide angle is for sure on my wish list.
